Nintendo 64
Back in 1997, the Nintendo 64 was released as the
powerful successor to the SNES, and was instantly locked in a battle of
preference with the Sony Playstation. Taking its namesake from the 64-bit
processor within the console, the system curiously still ran on cartridges as
opposed to the discs of the Playstation. This did nothing to reduce the quality
of the N64’s games however, which were often cited as being superior in quality
to any competition of the time.
Another advantage to the Nintendo 64 was the
incorporation of four joypad ports as opposed to the usual two. This allowed
gamers to play multi-player games without the need to purchase additional
multi-taps.
