Sega Mega
CD
The Sega Mega CD
was initially devised as an add-on for the Sega’s existing
Mega Drive in the early 90s,
as Sega sought an improvement to the system and a chance to rival the growing
popularity of the SNES. Adding CD capabilities allowed for improved games, as
well as audio functions being added to the system.
The Mega CD also allowed Sega to re-release some old favourites from the system on disc form, allowing for major improvements to sound quality and even additional levels and features to some game titles.
The Mega CD was remodelled a number of times, incorporating new features and improving on some reported bugs.
