Sega Master System
Sega released the Master System, their first 8-bit games console in 1986, hoping to directly rival the success of Nintendo’s NES system. Sega produced a console with an amount of key features, and curiously, the system contained two media input devices; one for cartridge and another for game cards. These cards normally allowed for game add-ons, such as the ability to utilize 3D glasses whilst playing.
When it became apparent to Sega that the Master System could not rival the fame of the NES, the company began to downgrade the console to save production costs. The card slot was dropped, leaving only the cartridge function. This did however increase the quality of further games.
