Xbox
The Xbox was Microsoft’s first foray into the games console world, initiated in the early 2000s. The company began to fear losing out to the increasing dominance of the gaming console over the PC games industry. The Xbox was the first games console to incorporate a hard disk drive, allowing gamers to utilize a number of advantages, including storing game data without the need for memory cards and limited editing ability for games.
Despite the Xbox suffering a number of drawbacks upon release, including negative reaction to the oversized joypads and the expensive cost in relation to the competitors, the Xbox became a famous newcomer to the market, home to the massively successful Halo franchise that has continuously broken sales records.
The lifespan of the Xbox was surprisingly short-lived by gaming standards, with the console being discontinued after just 4 years to make way for the vastly improved Xbox 360.
