Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard
Matt Hazard is set to return for a new bout of crazy fun FPS mixed with outrageous videogame parody. Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard is in development for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and PC, and looks set to bring more mayhem to the genre, and may well be a lot more popular than you'd expect.
The Matt Hazard series has always been a franchise that couples great FPS action with a self referential and clever outlook on the genre as a whole. The developers have always taken great pains to include many gaming and movie parodies and references, whilst also keeping the gaming element top notch.
Matt Hazard is actually fully aware that he's in a videogame, acting as a bizarre in-game development tester. This gives rise for many crazy opportunities to play with the system, as the development periodically goes haywire and any number of strange occurances can arise. The environment around Matt can shapeshift and change, whilst his enemies can spontaneously morph from zombies to robots to cowboys, and, well, pretty much anything!
Whilst being clever and self-referential, parody games must still play well. Clever gimmicks and parodies do not excuse the developers from creating a game that is still actually fun to play and works well within the genre. Thankfully, the Matt hazard games have always played extremely well with diverse innovations and immersive gameplay. Eat Lead looks to continue this trend, with a detailed cover system which allows Matt to utilize almost any object for protection, and a gratifying close-combat system.
Eat Lead is, like all previous Hazard games, a perfect blend of comedy and action, with the two features complimenting each other astoundingly well. Eat Lead offers gamers a ratre treat these days- a light-hearted and easy going FPS, and is definitely worth checking out upon release.
