Turtles Return!
The TMNT were a massive phenomenon in the late 80s, and enjoyed a brief stint back in the limelight a couple of years ago with their movie/new toy line etc. However, one thing the franchise has always lacked is a decent game. Well, this is about to change as a new beat 'em up game is being developed for the Wii as a joint effort between the teams
that brought us both Super Smash Bros and Ninja Gaiden.
Said to follow the same basic mechanics as Super Smash Brawl, Turltles
Smash Up will take the fighting even further with the implementation of
more in-depth combos. Also, there will be a bigger emphasis on using
your environment against your opponent and to strategic advantage. For
example, in a sewer level there are areas where a constant stream of
water flows down off the stage. If you were knock someone off their
feet at the right moment there's a good chance they would not be able
to react before sliding right off.
This game will bring together all the obvious characters, along with some new faces to add to the mix. Different abilities and combo lists make for highly diverse battles, exactly in the same way as Super Smash Brawl. Combining this battle element with the platforming aspects creates a multi-tiered gaming experience that combines genres to great effect.
So with the advent of TMNT Smash Up, the turtles may just conquer another media form. And with the highly respected and proven talents of the developers, this one looks like a dead cert!
