Wii and Conduit- Perfect Partners?
First Person Shooting games have also led the charge in the development of more and more impressive graphics, the games going hand in hand with visual development. The Wii, as popular as it is, has never been known for groundbreaking graphics. A new game in development, Conduit, is set to change this perspective.
The developers of Conduit have created what is called the Quantum3 engine, capable of utilizing features that gamers have come to expect from the more graphically powerful consoles. These features are set to include bump mapping, material based bloom, dynamic water effects, and color gloss maps. Early tests for this title have been successful in utilizing these features.
It seems the Wii is catching up with the competition in terms of offering a truly dynamic yet visually stunning experience. But this development is not the be all and end all of FPS. When a representative of the first-person shooter developer Epic was asked whether or not they would be developing for the Wii, their answer was, "Why? That would be like a step backward!"
A great looking game with lacklustre gameplay is still an empty gaming experience, and a balance needs to be reached between the two. Gamers know that when developers focus on making graphics increasingly impressive, they are prone to completely overlook opportunities for innovation in gameplay. The Wii need to stay loyal to what made the console so popular to begin with- gameplay!
