Wii's Best Racers
The racing genre suffered a bit of a false start on the Wii console, with developers struggling to get to grips with the new system. However, over time developers have tackled this problem and some truly great games have surfaced. Here we list three of the best;
Contrary to the above statement, Excite Trucks has been with the Wii from the start, and is still one of the best. Whilst this title doesn't offer any multiplayer options, it instead provides a rip-roaring racing experience, wherein sheer, unadulterated speed is the law. The remote is held in a horizontal position in front of the player and tilted from side to side to steer. Pressing the D-pad engages your boost, which can be activated at any time but will overheat and slow down your engine if overused. If you're after a simple fun game that does exactly what it says on the tin, then Excite Trucks is definately for you!
Need For Speed Carbon builds upon the street racing sub genre, incorporating car shop and customization options, street car races, and police car chases into the usual mix. Customising is in-depth and offers a wide range of possibilities to keep you coming back and taking to the streets in the usual mix of speed and skill.
saving the best for last of course, we have Mario Kart. The cute and crazy fun of this franchise fits the Wii like a glove, and this game is justifiably known as the greatest racing game available to the console.
Mario Kart also offers online multiplayer options. This is possibly the most enjoyable online game ever to be played, and it quickly becomes clear that Mario Kart was MADE for multiplayer. It's just that much fun! This all combines to create the racing game against which all others should be judged!
